Many people with low blood pressure have no symptoms - their bodies have simply adapted to the new pressure level and can function well and without symptoms.

Others feel faint or dizzy as their BP level drops.

Fainting due to low blood pressure levels is most often seen when the levels drop from normal to low suddenly. Sometimes it can also happen with a drop from high BP to a more normal reading.

These kind of changes are most often caused by medications, by illness or by low blood count or blood loss.

If you feel symptoms like this then you should see your doctor for a check over - or consider buying yourself an automatic blood pressure monitor so that you can keep a close eye on the day by day changes in your levels.

Will low blood pressure cause me problems if I want to get pregnant?

I know that low blood pressure can develop during pregnancy but I already have low blood pressure and want to know if this will stop me from getting pregnant in the first place?

Is there a link between having low blood pressure and in finding it difficult to conceive? I read that the lower blood pressure might mean that overall fertility will decline - but is this correct?

Can a low blood pressure cause nose bleeds or epistaxis?

I know that a low blood pressure can lead to dizzy feelings but will it also cause bleeding problems - like nose bleeds or bruising?

Atenolol is a beta blocker drug.

Candesartan is a drug used for the treatment of high blood pressure - but can it have the effect of making the blood pressure go too low?

Many medications used to treat high blood pressure can also have the effect of making the levels go too low. This treatment induced low BP can be a major problem and is seen more often in older people.

Low blood pressure is officially defined as a systolic blood pressure less than 90 and a diastolic pressure less than 60.

This is often expressed in writing as less than 90/60

It's not always that clear cut. What if the reading is 95/55? What about 88/62?

In reality the judgement is often based on whether the person is otherwise unwell or is symptomatic as a result of their reading. It also depends of course on what the normal is for that person.

Dizzy and light headed sensations can arise for a number of reasons - often related to blood pressure but not always. Things are even made more complicated by the fact that high blood pressure can also cause you to feel dizzy and light headed.

Low blood pressure is a cause of dizziness related to change in posture.

If you feel dizzy or light headed when you get up quickly from a chair or from bed then there's a good chance that low blood pressure is at the root of it all. This kind of "postural low blood pressure" is often found in people who take high blood pressure medications. The medicines can sometimes lower the blood pressure too much and can cause real problems with feeling unwell or light headed.
